Celebrate Fall Semester and help decorate the campus, all while supporting a good cause! Join the Kent State Ashtabula Heart Walk Team Captains to build a scarecrow, then come out the week of September 26th and vote for your favorite.
Purchase a $20 Scarecrow frame from us and then construct your scarecrow to be displayed on campus the last week of September.
Who should participate?
Anyone who wants can purchase a scarecrow to decorate! Student clubs, departments on campus, a group of friends from the Commons, a group of alumni from your high school…. Be creative!
How do we build a scarecrow?
Use your imagination! We will provide the frame, and you do the rest! Think about durable materials. Set a day and time to build it with your group. Don’t have a good time to get together? Join us for a Construction Party on Friday, September 23. Details to follow!
What will we win?
Scarecrows will be judged in the following categories:
- Most School Spirit
- Most “Heart”
- Most Traditional
- Most Creative
…. And the Grand Prize will be the “People’s Choice” award, which will be voted on by all members of the campus community. The Grand Prize winner will have their choice of a $50 donation to their club account or a $50 gift certificate to a local restaurant. All winners will be recognized on social media.
Important dates and other details
- Week of September 19: Purchase your scarecrow frame in the Academic Affairs Office (C103)
- September 23: Construction Party 10:00 am – 12 noon, Gymnasium
- All scarecrows must be turned in by 4pm today!
- September 26: Scarecrows go on display. “People’s Choice” voting begins.
- September 29: Voting ends at 12:30pm. Winners are announced by email later today.
- October 1: Join us for the Heart Walk!
If you decorate your scarecrow on campus, please be respectful of our facilities!
- Absolutely no glitter or paint can be used indoors on campus!!
- Scarecrows must be suitable for viewing by all members of the community.
The scarecrows will be on display during the Heart Walk.
All proceeds benefit the Kent State Ashtabula Heart Walk Team.
