Viticulture and Enology Certificates
Kent State University Ashtabula offers two professional certificates designed to provide practical knowledge and skills in grape growing and winemaking -- a Certificate in Viticulture and Certificate in Enology. The Certificate programs are designed to provide industry recognized training for students interested in pursuing a new career or advancing their existing career in viticulture and enology. The programs are also ideal for home winemakers and grape growers that want to improve their skills or help determine if they want to grow their hobby into a small business.
Certificate in Viticulture
Courses included in the Certificate in Viticulture include Introduction to Viticulture and Vineyard Establishment, Botanical Viticulture, Winter Viticulture, Spring Viticulture, Summer/Fall Viticulture, Integrated Pest Management, Regional Vineyard Management and Soils for Viticulture.
Certificate in Enology
Courses included in the Certificate in Enology include Introduction to Enology, Winery Sanitation, Winery Equipment Operation, Wine Microorganisms, Intermediate Enology – Harvest and Crush, Intermediate Enology PostHarvest, Wine and Must Analysis, Fall Wine Production, and Cellar Operations.
While each of the Certificates may be completed as a stand-alone certificate program, courses included in these certificate may also be used to complete the corresponding Associate of Applied Science in Viticulture or Associate of Applied Science in Enology.
