Geraldine Hayes Nelson, Ph.D., Executive Director, Human Resources, Employee Engagement and Outreach, Kent State University
Geraldine Hayes Nelson earned a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Kent State University. As the executive director of Human Resources Employee Engagement, her role is to provide engagement opportunities, as well as employee appreciation and recognition events. She works in partnership with internal institutional division and units and provides oversight and leadership in the coordination of internal and external relationships/partnerships to strengthen community relations and enhanced communications.
In addition, Nelson assists in the onboarding of underrepresented faculty and staff. Her role supports training and development, with oversight of HR Communications. Nelson values and seeks to promote inclusiveness for all employees.
Nelson is proactive in engaging higher education and Ohio citizens at all levels in working together for change, and seeks avenues to address discrimination and social injustice. As a community leader, she has provided service in various community-based organizations and has received numerous awards. She is a certified trainer and facilitates discussions and overall partnering for diversity and inclusion.
She serves on various community boards, and currently serves as president of the Portage County NAACP.
