Kent State’s College of Business Administration Associate Professor of Finance Xiaoling Pu, Ph.D. is the recipient of the Olga A. Mural Risk Management Fund Associate Professorship.
Pu was selected based on several criteria. The majority of Pu’s research is in the broad area of risk management, which most closely resembles the purpose of the fund. Secondly, over the past three to five years, Pu has maintained an outstanding research record. In 2012, Dr. Pu was published in The Journal of Financial Economics, one of the top two journals in Finance.
“Dr. Pu is a very valuable member of the Department of Finance at Kent State University. She has built an international reputation for innovative scholarly research by being published in the most notable journals,” said Steve Dennis, department chair of finance. “Her research is already cited in top journals, and her influence will only increase in the years to come. She works diligently with Kent State’s doctoral students and she motivates the people around her to perform at a high level. This award recognizes her outstanding achievements.”
Pu received a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 2008. Her current research interests include credit risk, credit derivatives, credit markets and investments. Her research articles are published in journals such as The Journal of Financial Economics and The Journal of Banking and Finance. In May 2014, Pu received the College of Business Administration Distinguished Scholar Award.

Olga Mural attended Kent State in the 1940s and was one of the top contributors to Kent State University, sponsoring programs across the university including 11 Founders Medallion Scholarships. Pu is the first recipient of the Olga Mural Associate Professorship.
