Kent State College of Business Administration Announces Indians’ Matt Tagliaferri as Fall 2019 BizTech Talk Speaker

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State University College of Business Administration announces Matt Tagliaferri, director of software development for the Cleveland Indians, as the Fall 2019 BizTech Talk speaker. The event, part of the BizTech Talk series presented by the Center for Information Systems, will take place on Thursday, October 17 at 7 p.m. in Cartwright Auditorium on the Kent State campus. A reception will follow Tagliaferri’s talk.

Tagliaferri received a Bachelor’s degree in information systems from The Ohio State University in 1988. He worked as a software developer for insurance, retail and investment companies after graduation, specializing primarily in executive information systems.

In May 1997, Tagliaferri began working for the Cleveland Indians as Director of Software Development. In this role, Tagliaferri and his team build the reports, websites and applications used by the front office and players to maximize the team’s success. This includes capturing data on previous games and players’ statistics to create a comprehensive database for the team. This database is then used at the beginning of every series to generate a game plan tailored to beat that specific opponent.

“We look forward to welcoming Matt Tagliaferri to speak on the role technology plays in professional sports and how data impacts the way teams make decisions,” said Dr. Drew Sellers, director of the Center for Information Systems and associate professor of accounting.

The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Register for the event at http://bit.ly/Fall19BizTech.
