Kent State University’s College of Business Administration Top Student Scholars Showcase a Success

Kent State University’s College of Business Administration hosted the third annual VanBenthuysen Top Student Scholars Showcase bringing together top academic business students and employers for short interviews and networking.

Over 100 juniors, seniors and graduate students with GPA’s of 3.0 or higher were invited to meet with 36 employers from Northeast Ohio and beyond. Some companies in attendance included Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, JPMorgan Chase & Co., Hyland Software Inc., KeyBank, PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. and The J.M. Smucker Company. Many students left the showcase with follow-up interviews for internships or even job offers.

To participate, students completed a three-step process to prepare for the showcase: a resume review, mock interview and a professional development workshop. These requirements prepared students for a successful showcase enabling them to network effectively with attending premier corporate recruiters.

The college’s dedicated on-site Career Services Office is comprised of two staff teams who coordinated the showcase; the Career Advising and Management Team who works to provide successful internships and career searches through customized career advising and career development workshops, while the Employer Relations and Outreach Team partners with corporations for recruitment and hiring by connecting them with talented business students.

“The VanBenthuysen Top Student Scholars Showcase is such a beneficial event for employers and students alike,” said Mandy McNamee, M.Ed., assistant director of the College of Business Administration’s Career Services Office. “The showcase provides our high-performing students an opportunity to network with professionals in their field of study, after being thoroughly prepared for the interview process to ensure each student’s success.”
