Florence Summer Business Institute: Global Business Studies

Spend one month of your summer at Kent State University's beautiful Florence, Italy, campus while taking two classes and earning credit. You may use your weekends to get to know the city of Florence and explore Europe.

Two-Week Programs

Moscow and Saint Petersburg

This two-week, three credit-hour course explores management in emerging markets across a full range of functions, such as marketing, finance, investment, business strategies and human resource management. 

Will fulfill major elective for Business Management majors and the international study abroad experience for the Program hosted by the National Research University International Business minor.

Amsterdam to the Alps

This two-week, three credit-hour course explores culture and sustainability in Western Europe, particularly Germany, in the Rhine Valley. A short online program will be followed by tours of:

  • University of Leiden
  • European Commission La Grand-Place
  • Hotel de Ville
  • Royal Palace
  • And much more!  

Students must have a sophomore standing, a minimum GPA of 2.5, a passport and have completed Principles of Management MIS 24163. International Experience in Sustainability, ESC Rennes

Last two weeks in June 2018

 rennes,=This interactive 11-day course in Rennes, France introduces you to sustainability through the international study of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). You will meet and collaborate with students from universities all over the world as you study in a city recognized for its leadership in sustainability. In addition to lectures, the learning experience includes guest speakers. business visits and sightseeing tours. ESC Rennes, located in Rennes, the capital city of the region of Brittany in northwest France, is one of the 36 elite management schools making up the “Grande Ecole” network in France. 

Rennes is a vibrant city filled with museums, cafes, restaurants, shopping, and historical charm, all of which is easily accessible by bus or metro. It is just two hours outside of Paris by high speed train, making it convenient for you to visit one of the most recognizable cities in the world. You are also encouraged see other parts of Europe before or after your 11 days in Rennes.

International Experience in Accounting

May 14 - May 26, 2017

The first week of this course is spent in a Kent State classroom followed by a two-week trip to Paris and London. Once there, you will visit firms and organizations related to accounting and finance, including, but not limited to, the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and the Deutsche Bank. You will also observe an IASB board meeting where International Financial Reporting Standards are discussed.

International Business Experience

Spend two weeks in Switzerland and France gaining first-hand exposure to international businesses and organizations. By combining lectures, visits to international businesses and organizations and cultural excursions, you will come away with a better understanding of the context in which U.S. businesses operate in a global economy. This program substitutes for a college elective course for the Business Management major. It also counts as the "International Study Abroad Experience" elective for the International Business minor.
