Girls Geared for Engineering Camp

Aeronautics and Technology Building, and off-site visits

Girls Geared for Engineering Camp is for middle school aged girls which takes place in June at the Kent Main Campus.

In 2017, campers experienced aerospace engineering and mechatronics-the integration of mechanical, electrical, computer, and systems engineering-on the Kent State University campus in this multi-disciplinary, weeklong day camp. They took part in fun and challenging engineering projects and activities, such as flying mini-drones and launching a rocket. Campers explored career opportunities during site visits to two well-known companies.

2018 Itinerary

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 8:45am-noon

Very hands-on, campers will work with KSU faculty and students as part of a design team: each day they will build up to three different engineering projects while learning about aeronautics, robotics, and the renewable energies that power their designs. Snacks will be available.

Thursday, 8:45am-3:30pm

Tour two area high-tech engineering companies. Hear about life as an engineer, have lunch with engineering professionals, and see the labs and production floor. Lunch will be provided.

Friday, 8:45am-noon

Girls will put to use what they learned earlier in the week, as they work on a capstone project to present to their parents/guardians. Parents/guardians will join the group for lunch followed by student presentations and a certificate ceremony.
