Aeronautics Safety Day History
Kent State University's Aeronautics Safety Day has a long history in various forms. Check back as we add more history and a place to share your experiences!
The event originated as early as the 1990's or even earlier. Former Keynote Speakers have included Captain Al Haynes and Brian Shul. Captain Al Haynes was a pilot of the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 which experienced a catastrophic engine failure, complete hydraulic loss, and crash landing in Sioux City, Iowa. Captain Haynes saved over 185 lives due to his preparedness and courageous acts. Brian Shul was a Vietnam War veteran pilot, a pilot of the famed Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, and author of books about the SR-71 Blackbird, US Air Force Thunderbirds, and the US Navy Blue Angels.
