Robots are a Girl’s Best Friend

Last weekend, Girl Scouts and their parents participated in an educational outreach program at the
College of Aeronautics and Engineering (CAE), working on STEM initiatives including constructing
functional robots. Darwin Boyd, Ph.D., assistant professor, mechatronics, and the Kent State Robotics
Club hosted Troop 90834 as they learned about engineering and toured the CAE. Boyd and mechatronics
students taught the girls some of their first skills on their path to becoming engineers.

“The Girl Scouts loved the hands-on aspect of building the robots,” Boyd said. “We really enjoyed having
the Girl Scouts at the CAE. Their energy and interest in the project will help them to become great
engineers.”

The next learning session for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, will take place from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., December
1 at the CAE, room 101.
