A Message from Dean Bloebaum

After completing almost eight months as the new Dean in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering (CAE), I can say that it has been a truly transformative and exciting time. CAE is growing in so many positive ways and I am delighted to be part of this great team. I want to share with you several of the new and innovative initiatives that CAE is spearheading.

We have expanded our students’ academic opportunities by launching the BS in Mechatronics Engineering and a brand new online MS in Aviation Management and Logistics. We are also repositioning our present MTECH degree to a Master of Engineering Technology degree with concentrations in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, Quality Processes and Engineering Management. We are in the process of developing new BS degrees in Unmanned Aircraft Systems: Operation, Unmanned Aircraft Systems: Integration and Design, and Cybersecurity Engineering, and new MS and Ph.D. degree programs in Aerospace Engineering, with an expected launch in Fall 2020.

We are hiring several new faculty members to support our growth and to expand our focus on research, while broadening our corporate engagement. These efforts will not only enhance our students’ opportunities, but will support our signature mission to increase research funding and expand our influence within aeronautics and engineering industries.

There is a sense of energy at CAE as we near the unveiling of our new Aeronautics Academic Center at the Kent State Airport and begin our campaign to support the buildout of a new wing on the Aeronautics and Technology Building (soon to be renamed the Aeronautics and Engineering Building!)

Your continued engagement and support through student mentorship and philanthropy allows us to offer an extraordinary education as well as state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to our students.

I am excited to continue getting to know all of our extraordinary alumni and friends. I invite you to reach out to me on Twitter @AEDeanChristina. As your dean, I am eager to work with you and I hope to see you at our upcoming Vision 21 Awards Banquet on April 26 at the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center.

Also, keep your calendar open for our Aeronautics & Engineering Expo (formerly known as the Heritage/Aeronautics Fair) to be held Saturday, September 7, as well as our first ever all alumni celebration and gathering on the preceding evening, Friday, September 6. We can’t wait to welcome you back home as you tour the Aeronautics Academic Center as well as our Engineering labs on Kent campus. Keep watch for more exciting information about these events and everything happening in CAE by visiting our website (kent.edu/CAE) and following us in social media.
