Year Three, Kent State in Air Race Classic
Kent State University aeronautics students Helen Miller and Kenzie Alge will participate in The Air Race Classic, an all-female air race established in 1929. Participants range in age from 17 to 90 years old, according to the race website. Race teams, all of which consist of at least two female pilots, must fly using Visual Flight Rules during daylight hours only and are given four days to make flybys at each en route timing point and then land at the terminus. The race route is approximately 2,400 statute miles in length, with eight or nine timing points.
“I am so glad the college is able to provide such a great opportunity for our young women aviators to experience,” said Robert G. Sines, Jr., interim dean, College of Aeronautics and Engineering. “I couldn’t be prouder of our 'Flying Flashes.'”
