WOMEN IN STEM SCHOLARSHIP

 

 

I.         INTRODUCTION

 

The “College of Aeronautics and Engineering – Women in STEM” scholarship was established for incoming female freshman students pursuing any major in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering at Kent State University.  This scholarship is made possible through past and current sponsors of the Aviation Scholarship Fund. 

 

The College of Aeronautics and Engineering – Women in STEM Scholarship will award four (4) scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each and four (4) scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each.  All eight scholarships are renewable for four years only.  In order to renew, the recipient must remain a full-time student in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering and maintain a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA.   Interested prospective College of Aeronautics and Engineering female students are encouraged to apply upon acceptance to Kent State University.  In choosing a recipient, consideration will be given to scholarship applicants who can demonstrate a record of academic excellence, volunteer activities, and financial need.

 

 

II.        APPLICATION PROCESS

 

The deadline for submitting complete scholarship applications is March 25th, 2019.  However, applications will be reviewed upon receipt.  Complete application packages comprising two letters of reference, a personal essay, academic transcripts, and a completed application form must be submitted no later than Monday, March 25th 2019 to:

The 2019 scholarship recipients will be selected by Friday, April 5th 2019.  The four (4) scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each and four (4) scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each will be awarded to the eight successful candidates during the College of Aeronautics and Engineering Vision 21 Awards Banquet, which will be held in the evening on Friday, April 26th 2019 at the Kent State Hotel and Conference Center. The scholarship recipients are invited to attend the awards banquet to receive recognition for their accomplishment. 

 

 

III.      PURPOSE

 

The College of Aeronautics and Engineering – Women in STEM Scholarship is intended to assist and reward outstanding female students in all majors in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering at Kent State University who have successfully demonstrated academic potential and leadership.

IV.       ELIGIBILITY

 

All incoming female freshman students in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering who meet the following criteria;

 

    1. Minimum 3.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average
    2. Planning to enroll in/maintaining full-time coursework, or a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester, in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering
    3. Demonstrable financial need (from Financial Aid and FAFSA form)

 

V.        REQUIREMENTS

 

1.         The applicant must be an incoming female freshman student planning to study any major in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering.

 

2.         The applicant must be planning to enroll in full-time coursework or a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester. 

 

3.         Students who receive an award must remain enrolled in full-time coursework or a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester and maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA to continue renewal. Should a recipient change to a major outside of the College after the scholarship has been awarded, the funds will be rescinded. The student will be responsible for any outstanding balance.

 

4.         Each applicant must complete and submit an application package comprising;

i.          current transcripts

ii.         complete application form

iii.        two (2) typewritten letters of recommendation (excluding relatives), and

iv.        a personal essay (1,000 words or less)
