CNC Fabrication Workshop

This workshop will focus on the potential to design in parallel with CNC fabrication technologies. RhinoCam will allow participants to simulate milling effects in the friendly Rhinoceros environment. Workshop participants will engage hands-on with a 3-axis CNC router and manage the fabrication of a design entity. One will learn about tooling bits, feed settings, material setup on the table, running a file and troubleshooting possible errors. The course will also cover custom tool-paths to generate unique surface articulation and flip-mill techniques.

Software:
Rhinoceros 3D / RhinoCam / Grasshopper

Machine / Hardware:
3-axis Laguna CNC router

Materials:
Foam / MDF / Softwood

Previous knowledge recommended:
3d modeling

Enrollment:
Minimum of 8 students; Limited to 16 students

Cost per person: $2,950

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate an advanced understanding of digital tools and how they can be applied to solve architectural digital fabrication problems.
  • Demonstrate proficient knowledge of mill set up, and usage.
  • Carry out production/assembly of small-scale prototypes.
