International Student Career Boot Camp

The International Student Career Boot Camp is an event designed to help international students elevate their professional presence on paper, in-person and online. International students are encouraged to attend this event to prepare for seeking full-time, part-time and on-campus student employment, to understand cultural expectations and legal requirements for working in the United States.

This fall, the event will be 100% virtual and will be held through Blackboard Collaborate Ultra. If students have class at this time but would like to attend, please email Krittika Grau at kgrau1@kent.edu. This event is FREE to all students and will be held on Friday, September 11 from 9:00am - 5:00pm EST. You will have the flexibility to select which breakout sessions you want to attend to make sure you get the most out of the event. Day-of Agenda:

  • 9:00-9:15 am: Welcome and going over agenda for the day with students
  • 9:30-10:00 am: Keynote speech
  • 10:00-10:05 am: Move to breakout sessions
  • 10:05-11:00am:  First set of breakout sessions offered:
    • Resume writing basics
    • Writing a Curriculum Vitae
    • Crafting a cover letter
  • 11:00-11:15 am: Quick break
  • 11:15-12:00 pm: Second set of breakout sessions offered:
    • Job search strategies for on and off-campus employment
    • Interviewing dos and don’ts
    • Using LinkedIn for your job search
  • 12:00-1:00: Lunch break
  • 1:00-2:00: Alumni and international employers Q&A panel
  • 2:00-2:05 pm: Move to breakout sessions offered
  • 2:05-3:00 pm: Third set of breakout sessions offered:
    • Finding co-ops and internships
    • Finding research opportunities for graduate students
  • 3:00-3:05 pm: Move to breakout sessions offered
  • 3:05-4:00 pm: Fourth set of breakout sessions offered:
    • Networking in person and online
    • Crafting and Perfecting an elevator pitch
  • 4:00-4:05 pm: Move to breakout sessions offered
