Kent State University's Division of Graduate Studies recently announced a number of awards, scholarships, and fellowships to outstanding graduate students. This year, 17 students from the College of Arts & Sciences were recognized with these awards. Congratulations to the students and their advisors! About the Scholarships, Awards, and Fellowships
The David B. Smith Scholarship is presented annually in honor of David B. Smith, a magna cum laude graduate of KSU, to recognize exceptional scholarship and teaching. Outstanding scholarship and teaching. Award is made based on the excellence of the academic record, including a minimum graduate GPA of 3.50. $500 monetary award.
The Lillian Friedman Scholarship is presented in honor of the late Lillian Friedman to recognize an outstanding graduate student contributing to and studying in the area of mental health. Award is made based on outstanding scholarship and excellence of the academic record, and studying a significant topic in mental health. $1,000 monetary award.
The Mary Ann Stephens and John R. Graham Award for Excellence in Graduate Research and Scholarship is presented annually to a doctoral student underrepresented in his or her discipline. Normally, one award is made each year and is based on the merit of the applicant's contribution to research and scholarship. $500 monetary award.
The Jeanette and Louis Reuter Fellowship in Developmental Sciences is awarded in memory of Jeanette Reuter to outstanding doctoral students contributing to and studying in the area of human development across the lifespan (i.e., infants, children, adolescents, and adults). The Reuter Fellowship provides recipients with an academic year non-service appointment to allow for full-time work on the dissertation.
The University Fellowship is awarded annually to advanced doctoral students to recognize excellent scholarship and research potential. University Fellowship recipients are able to commit their time to dissertation research or writing.
The Graduate Student Teaching Award highlights excellence in teaching and mentoring among current graduate students. The award recognizes graduate students who exemplify excellence in teaching/learning as part of their professional development and training. Kent State University winners will also be submitted as institutional nominees to the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools as KSU nominees for the MAGS Excellence in Teaching Award. The MAGS award includes a citation and a $750 honorarium that will be presented at the annual meeting of the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS).
