Communication Studies Prof to Speak at Spirit of Women in Business Conference

Session to cover ways to leverage effective negotiation

Lisa Waite, a senior lecturer in the School of Communication Studies at Kent State University at Stark, will be a featured speaker at the Kent State-hosted 160125-SWIB-Lisa Waite Headshot SMALL-PIC-march 9 2016.png2016 Spirit of Women in Business Conference on March 9.

In addition to teaching, Waite is the owner and president of Waite Communication and Professional Development.

Her conference presentation is titled “Lean In: Tactical Solutions For Success,” and she will cover topics such as negotiation strategies, leadership competence and self-advocacy for women in the workplace.

While researching for her presentation, Waite realized the 21st century workplace required a different kind of negotiation approach. She concluded salary inequality, promotion and work flexibility were just some of the issues women struggled to negotiate.

“Women are often bypassed, not because of incompetence, but because they fail to successfully negotiate their needs,” Waite said. “This session brings practical solutions for immediate use and prepares you to create success through negotiation.”

Waite’s session will also include an activity for participants to figure out their negotiation limitations and work to improve them.

Waite’s conference topics coincide with her passion of helping companies transform their leaders and employees at every level to bring about change.
