Forum Examines Fake News Phenomenon
Kent State University hosted Fighting Fake News, a panel discussion for faculty, staff and students, from 4 to 5 p.m. on April 3 in the Kent Student Center Kiva.
The forum focused on issues surrounding the fake news phenomenon and how to better navigate the current media and information landscape, including news and information literacy, how the term fake news is applied and used, and conspiracy and other types of theories in U.S. media and politics.
Panelists included Michael Hawkins, librarian; Jan Leach, associate professor, journalism and mass communication, and director, Media Law Center for Ethics and Access; and Rekha Sharma, assistant professor, communication studies. Amy Reynolds, dean of the College of Communication and Information, was the moderator.
Following individual remarks from each panelist, audience members had the chance to ask questions.
