Interim Associate Dean To Speak On Political Campaigns Panel
Danielle Sarver Coombs, Ph.D., the interim associate dean in the Kent State University College of Communication and Information and an associate professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, will speak as part of a panel at the Akron Area Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) meeting on Oct. 13 at the Tangier Event Center.
September marks “Ethics month” for PRSA, but the Akron Area Chapter has decided to extend the commemoration into October by holding a special panel titled “The Ethics of Political Campaigns.”
This election year has had provided no shortage of shocking headlines. The discussion will dive into both the ethics of media coverage surrounding the campaigns as well as the ethics of those individuals running the campaign. Plus, questions and discussions may draw from this month’s Poynter Kent State Media Ethics Workshop which focused on social justice issues, many of which are related to hot topics in this election, including immigration, gender and race equality and higher education.
In addition to serving as an educator, Sarver-Coombs also specializes in analyzing and researching national media political coverage.
Other panelists include Jerry Austin, who has formerly managed state and national campaigns; and Mary Anne Sharkey, a former editor, columnist and political reporter for The Cleveland Plain Dealer.
