RELATIONSHIP ABUSE AWARENESS MONTH

 

October 1st – October 31st

 

October 1st is the beginning of Relationship Abuse Awareness Month.  During this month, the SRVSS Office will be providing programs and opportunities for healing, support, and safety of those impacted by relationship and sexual violence. There will be opportunities for the community to rally in support and engage in dialogue about prevention.

RECYCLE YOUR BRAS

October 1st-November 6th

8AM-5PM Monday-Friday

Williamson House and Harbourt Hall

 

Drop off your bras at Williamson House or Harbourt Hall between 8AM-5PM Monday through Friday each week.

 

Please bring washed and clean bras.

 

Bras will be donated to the Portage County Clothing Center or turned into wipe cloths.

MAMMOGRAMS

October 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th

DeWeese Health Center, Room 135

Screening will last 15 minutes

 

The Women’s Center is offering digital mammograms to qualified Kent State employees, spouses, and students. Each participant’s health insurance will be billed or participants may self-pay.

BIG BROTHA’S PROGRAM

Every Wednesday, Starting October 11th

6:30-8:30PM

Oscar Ritchie Multi Purpose Room

 

The Big Brotha’s Program is an organization geared towards incoming freshman male students, who struggle with the insecurities of being “bigger or obese”. This program is designed to empower, uplift, support, educate, and strengthen the young men to become better in their daily lives.

 

Meet the mentors and also have a chance to win prizes!

 

Students must be full-time and identify as male to participate.

 

Please mark your calendars now. These events will not be repeated in future CCI Diversity Newsletters.

INTERNATIONAL COOK-OFF COMPETITION

 

Submissions due Friday, October 13th

 

If you and your friends enjoy cooking and have a mouth-watering recipe, be sure to register for a chance to compete in our upcoming International Cook-Off Competition.

COMING HOME: WOMEN’S WISDOM AND VALUED VOICES

The Women’s Center and the Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality will be partnering to host a Homecoming Event called “Coming Home: Women’s Wisdom and Valued Voices.”

 

Come out and reconnect with Kent State Alumni, Faculty, Staff, and students. There will be guest speakers, food, family, and fun.

 

This event is free, but space is limited.

This Is Hunger is a powerful and interactive exhibit, housed in a big rig, that takes individuals on a journey—one that that will challenge their beliefs about who in America struggles with hunger and why, and inspire them to take action.

HURRICANE RELIEF SUPPLY DRIVE

 

October 1st-October 20th

 

In support of numerous requests from within the university community, Human Resources is sponsoring  the Kent State University and Community Partners Hurricane Relief Supply Drive, Oct. 1 - 20, 2017. 

 
Donate much-needed supplies to provide comfort and support to communities across the South affected by recent hurricanes and subsequent floodwaters. Please only donate the items listed on the website.
