RELATIONSHIP ABUSE AWARENESS MONTH
October 1st – October 31st
October 1st is the beginning of Relationship Abuse Awareness Month. During this month, the SRVSS Office will be providing programs and opportunities for healing, support, and safety of those impacted by relationship and sexual violence. There will be opportunities for the community to rally in support and engage in dialogue about prevention.

DISABILITY AWARENESS MONTH

We talk about disAbilities with a capital “A” because we want to focus on what people CAN do, not what they CAN’T do.

FLASHES OF PRIDE POSTER UNVEILING

FREE SPEECH OR HATE SPEECH?

There's a thin line between free speech and hate speech. The upcoming KENTtalks, moderated by CCI Dean Amy Reynolds, will explore the right to express any opinions without censorship or restraint.

This two-day conference is for African-American women and girls and will provide information, education, and support related to mental, emotional, and physical well-being; education and occupational opportunities; and financial empowerment.
THE HARAMBEE AWARD RECEPTION
Friday, November 3rd
Kent State Hotel and Conference Center
The Harambee Award Reception recognize students, faculty, alumni, and supporters who provide outreach support and programs that increase the success of underrepresented and underserved students at Kent State and in the community.
There is NO COST to attend, however donations are being accepted. Proceeds will benefit diversity scholarships for Kent State students.
Our JMC Student Voice Team is the recipient of this year’s Creative Contribution Award! Please attend this event in support of one of our great CCI student organizations.
LGBTQ STUDENT CENTER SPRING INTERN APPLICATIONS
Due November 17th at 5PM
Spring intern applications are now open for the LGBTQ Student Center.
Send your résumé, availability during the fall 2017 semester, number of hours per week that you are seeking, and an essay (not exceeding more than one page) explaining:
1. Why you are interested in being part of the LGBTQ Student Center
2. What you hope to gain from the position if selected
This internship is unpaid, however you can receive class credit, valuable experience, good connections, and meaningful content to add to your résumé.

SUGAR PLUM TOUR
Sunday, December 3rd
Reduced Price Tickets must be purchased before Tuesday, October 31st.
Each year, the Gay Community Endowment Fund sponsors the Sugar Plum Tour, a holiday home tour in and around Akron. The proceeds from the event support grants to organizations like Fusion magazine and Kent State’s QUEST mentoring program, which pairs LGBTQ students of color and in economic need with a supportive adult role model.
HURRICANE RELIEF SUPPLY DRIVE
October 1st-October 20th
In support of numerous requests from within the university community, Human Resources is sponsoring the Kent State University and Community Partners Hurricane Relief Supply Drive, Oct. 1 - 20, 2017.
