NEW CCI-DIVERSITY LISTSERV

 

We now have a CCI-Diversity listserv!

 

The CCI Diversity Newsletter will continue to be distributed each week to the ALL_CCI_MEMBERS listserv, which includes all full-time faculty and staff in CCI.

 

Part time faculty and staff, graduate and doctoral students, undergraduate students, and anyone else who is not on the ALL_CCI_MEMBERS listserv can now also receive the CCI Diversity Newsletter by joining the CCI-Diversity listserv.

 

Anyone can join the listserv by going to https://listserv.kent.edu/cgi-bin/wa.exe?LOGON, selecting CCI-Diversity, and then selecting Subscribe. You can also ask to be added to the CCI-Diversity listserv by emailing aromansk@kent.edu.

 

THE OPIOID EPIDEMIC SEMINAR

 

Open to all Spring 2018 CCI Majors

 

Stephanie Smith is teaching this course which concerns the Opioid Epidemic. Students will work with a client, the Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) of Trumbull County, and Stephanie is asking for students from all CCI majors.

The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA Kent) is partnering with the Division of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), the School of Journalism and Mass Communication(JMC) and Kent State Student Media to bring speaker, humorist, author and diversity engagement specialist Karith Foster to campus on Wednesday, September 13 at 7:30 p.m. Karith will discuss her program, Stereotyped 101™ "An Exploration in Unconscious Bias," to Kent State at a time in our country where humor, understanding, acceptance and respect are so desperately needed. Her motto is: "If you can laugh at it, you can get through it." Come listen to Karith as she shares her stories and creates a space for dialogue about modern day diversity and how we can practice compassion to inspire change. This event is open to all students, faculty, and staff. Join us Wednesday, September 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Franklin Hall room 340.

POYNTER MEDIA ETHICS WORKSHOP: FAKE OR FACT?

The Poynter KSU Media Ethics Workshop is a one-day training program for professionals, educators, and students that examines critical issues and perspectives in media ethics. This year, the workshop will explore the concept of fake news. Panel and session topics may include: - What fake news means for journalism’s future and credibility - Elections and fake news - Implications for public relations professionals. This year’s keynote speaker will be David Folkenflik from NPR.
