Pre-Medicine Programs
Students may pursue a Pre-Medical program (Pre-medicine, Pre-Osteopathy, Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Veterinary Medicine) at Kent State University. They must also complete all the requirements for a primary major or field of concentration.
Students often choose to pursue the primary major in the biological sciences, chemistry, or psychology; they may, however, pursue any major in the college along with the premedical program.
Note the BS Chemistry degree with a concentration in Biological Chemistry includes all the courses required for the Pre-Medical program. Pre-Medical Program Requirements and further resources are provided below:

MCAT Workshop
The College of Arts & Sciences will be offering an AS30095 MCAT lecture series workshop in Spring 2020.
Eligibility:
- minimum 3.2 GPA
- planning to apply to a program that requires the MCAT (such as medical school)
- have already completed/be in the process of completing Organic Chemistry II, Physics II, and one course in Biochemistry in Spring 2020
- have completed at least two semesters of Biology, two semesters of General Chemistry, and one semester each of Psychology and Sociology
The workshop is worth 2 upper-division elective credits. Space is limited; registration is first-come, first-served.
Those interested in registering should contact Erin Lawson (elawson1@kent.edu) prior to one week before Spring 2020 classes begin.
American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) Choose Your Medical School Tool
The Association of American Medical Colleges has created a program called AAMC American Medical Colleges Application Service Choose Your Medical School Tool. This is used if directed by the schools to indicate if you plan to accept the offer and "Plan to Enroll" or "Commit to Enroll."
The Pre-Medicine Committee Review
A polished application and smooth interviewing skills can improve the chances for selection to medical school. The Pre-Medicine Committee (PMC) Review is a program created to provide feedback on your application prior to submission to medical school selection boards. As part of the review, participants in the PMC Program will have opportunities to prepare for the Medical School Visit stage of the application process through mock interviews.
Additional information and application materials can be found at: https://www.kent.edu/cas/pre-medicine-committee.

Veterinary Medicine
The current "Admission Guidelines" of The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Veterinary Medicine indicate that, in order to be eligible for "admission without condition", students pursuing the Kent State Premedicine program should select BSCI 30156 Elements of Genetics and BSCI 30171 General Microbiology from among the biological sciences options and should add either CHEM 30284 Introductory Biological Chemistry or Principles of Biochemistry to the chemistry requirements above if neither is already being taken as part of the primary major. In addition, OSU recommends coursework in economics, sociology and psychology to fulfill the social sciences requirements. Speech (communications), history, classical studies and/or comparative literature are recommended for the humanities. A course in statistics also is encouraged. Math 30111 Basic Probability and Statistics is recommended.
