Arts and Science | Kent State University

The Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees provide you with many opportunities that can impact your educational and occupational lives.

These degree programs can build a knowledge base, challenge the intellect, satisfy curiosity, and provide the basis for future study.

The AA/AS degrees are built upon the University's General Education Requirements, which are an essential component of every Kent State University bachelor's degree. You also choose a core of electives, which in conjunction with Kent Core courses, can be designed to provide marketable skills. Because these degree programs allow you to include upper division (junior and senior) coursework, they also provide an excellent foundation for a baccalaureate major or minor.

Earning an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science serves as an important milestone in your education, signifying completion of at least 60 hours of study. The associate's degree credential can set you apart from others in the job market and serve as a vehicle for career advancement.

Through the proper selection of courses, you can tailor the degree to specific employable skills or you can blend courses from several academic disciplines to create a unique educational experience. The General Education Requirements (Kent Core) can provide a well-rounded background, written and verbal communication skills, problem solving ability, or foreign language knowledge - all important skills in the workplace.
