Program Director, Nuclear Medicine Program
I am the Program Director of the Nuclear Medicine Program at Kent State University Salem Campus. I graduated from the School of Radiologic Technology at the Youngstown Hospital Association North Unit and received a Bachelor of General Studies from Kent State University.
I have been employed as a registered nuclear medicine technologist in hospitals throughout northeast Ohio. I previously served as Program Director of the St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center School of Nuclear Medicine Technology from 1981 until 1986. In April of 2003, I initiated the nuclear medicine program that was established by Jan Gibson, Senior Program Director. The self study process resulted in program accreditation from the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology, earning a five-year award, the maximum term allowed for new programs. Since that time, the program has earned an additional maximum term five-year accreditation award. The program is also certified by the Radiology Technology Section of the Ohio Department of Health.
The first group of students began in the fall semester of 2003 and to date seventy nine students have graduated from the nuclear medicine program. All graduates have successfully completed two national certification examinations on the first attempt with scores above the national average.
My primary responsibilities as program director include the organization, administration, periodic review, planning, development and general effectiveness of the program. I maintain current nuclear medicine technology and educational methodology through networking and professional continuing education activities. I serve as the lead faculty instructor, designing, planning and evaluating course curriculum. I teach nuclear medicine courses in radiopharmacy, nuclear and radiation physics, instrumentation, radiation safety and protection, and general diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
