Support Kent State Columbiana County

Dear Friends and Alumni,

Kent State University’s presence within each of our two communities – East Liverpool and Salem – serves as a metaphorical beacon of hope to so many individuals. We provide opportunities for area residents to earn degrees and achieve long-term goals that many never thought were possible.

That is very important as we recognize that many of our students are working one or two jobs; many are first-generation students; many are parents. We also recognize that our students are bright, intelligent, energized, hardworking and determined individuals destined for great things. They are worthy.

With your financial support, we can continue to honor the history of these two campuses and support the current students, faculty and staff who are collaborating to create dynamic educational experiences. We can also work to prepare our students for futures that will showcase their talents and skills.

While it is important to acknowledge our history and the efforts to establish these two campuses, we must give special attention to the ever-changing world around us – the future. Campuses are no longer just bricks and mortar or books and desks. We now provide in-class, remote and online instruction using technology and expertise that your generosity helps support.

I continue to be humbled by the generous financial support to the East Liverpool and Salem campuses. Thank you for your philanthropic gifts to our campus and to our programs. Your giving makes a difference in meaningful ways and helps us with our mission of Students First.

Support Kent State Columbiana County

Rising Scholars – Kent State University's Rising Scholars program (formerly known as the Rural Scholars program) offers first-generation college-bound students from Columbiana County and neighboring areas a college access program. This program is designed to give students and their families the knowledge, rigorous academic exposure and social support they will need to be successful at a world-class university. Contributions to this program help with costs related to workshops, transportation and scholarships to Kent State University.

Student Scholar Support – Scholarship support helps attract and retain students and acknowledges academic achievement by students. Scholarships also provide assistance to students who face economic hardships. Gifts can be placed into an existing scholarship fund or can be used to create a new fund.

Infrastructure Support – To properly prepare our students for future careers, we must keep our classrooms, labs, learning centers and supporting technology current. Our instructional spaces must continuously evolve to include designs and technical advances that reflect the workplaces our students will enter after graduation.

High Impact Practices – When students are engaged in research or projects outside of the classrooms, they take their college experience to a higher level of learning. Gifts to this fund will help support undergraduate research, internship and work study opportunities, campus-wide mentoring, cultural diversity experiences and other off-campus educational opportunities.

Your choices of where and how to support Kent State students, our vision and our mission are endless, and include a variety of scholarships and programs. These university-wide key initiatives impact a large population of our students and your gift will make an immediate and lasting impact.

Emergency Grant Fund supports students during pandemic - With the multitude of challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of students and their families are encountering unexpected financial challenges associated with travel, food, housing, technology needs and, in some cases, lost wages by both the student and parents. “Our students need us now more than ever,” said Kent State President Todd Diacon. “I am confident our Golden Flash family will answer that call, because despite the uncertainty we are all facing at this time, there is one thing that remains constant: Flashes Take Care of Flashes.”

Scholarships put students first - At Kent State, we have a laser focus on ensuring that students have the education, experiences and support they need to graduate and to live successful, meaningful lives. Our deep and unwavering commitment to putting Students First has guided the development of strategies and a culture that welcomes all students with open arms and pushes them to become more than they ever imagined. Raising funds to align with scholarship needs is our first priority at Kent State, and ensures we support our students from the day they receive their letter of acceptance, to the day they receive their degree.

Study abroad experiences - Every student—regardless of their age, means or area of interest—should have the opportunity to receive a global education. That’s why we offer education abroad scholarships to students of all majors. Your gift can help open up a world that students didn’t even know existed. Study abroad opportunities are some of the most direct and effective ways to transform a student’s life for the better, empowering students to engage in once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for study, research and exploration. We encourage students of all majors to expand their worldview through studying abroad in one of our programs in more than 60 countries, and we see tremendous interest in participating in these experiences. Many students just can't afford to do so without financial support.

College of Public Health develops health care leaders, innovations - Through teaching, research and service, the College of Public Health is living out its mission to develop public health leaders and promote public health innovations in collaboration with community partners both locally and globally. Together, our faculty, staff and students are making tremendous impacts on the health of those on our campuses, regionally, across the country and around the world. Our graduates are needed now more than ever to address global health concerns.
