Incoming Communication Student Scholarships

All high school seniors who have been admitted to Kent State's College of Communication and Information (CCI) are invited to apply for CCI scholarships.

The application process is now open. Deadline for applying is February 15, 2020. By submitting your application, you will be considered for both need- and merit-based scholarships

CCI Incoming Freshman Scholarship Application

Please note: Once you start this application, you cannot save your work and come back to it later. You must restart the application. Some applications may ask for one or more of the following supplemental materials:

  • A link to your portfolio of student media work 
  • At least two writing samples that demonstrate your skill and ability. 
  • One or more recommendation letters from individuals who can speak to your potential for success. They may be from high school teachers/advisers or members of organizations with which you are involved.

On the application, you will be given the opportunity to submit a portfolio website or drive containing these materials,. If you do not have the files ready at the moment, or if you have any trouble submitting them with this application, you can send them via email (

Additional Available Scholarships

CCI Dean's Scholarship

The CCI Dean's Scholarship is a need-based scholarship open to admitted Kent State undergraduates in:

  • School of Communication Studies
  • School of Digital Sciences
  • School of Journalism and Mass Communication
  • School of Visual Communication Design

The scholarship may be renewable for up to four years. Students who apply must also file the FAFSA.

Other Scholarship Opportunities


Incoming freshmen may qualify for need-based grants and loans, as well as need- and merit-based Kent State University scholarships.  Out-of-state students may be eligible for the President’s Scholarship or the University Award that reduce the out-of-state tuition surcharge.

Current students already enrolled in the School of Communication Studies may apply for several scholarships relating to their major. These awards are generally not available to incoming freshmen.
