Internship: Communications Intern, Portage County Regional Planning Commission

“The thing I enjoy most about this internship is the networking experiences. ... These experiences have opened my eyes to the vast opportunities within the business world.”

Through her internship with the Portage County Regional Planning Commission, Grace Petitjean has learned just how essential communication skills are in the workplace. Her Communication Studies coursework, especially High Impact Speaking, prepared her well for a government job.

“It is so important to be able to hold conversations, stand up in front of crowds, and speak confidently. My speaking skills I’ve developed from this class continue to help me open doors in the work industry.”

Grace has been working on planning and building a website for Celebrate Portage!, a series of events that will take place in August and September 2021. She has also worked on vision plans for the county, logo designs for the county planning commission and land use maps for the county’s villages, townships and cities. She also is in charge of updating social media for Celebrate Portage! and the Regional Planning Commission.

“The thing I enjoy most about this internship is the networking experiences. I have met dozens of people in leadership roles across Portage County. I have been able to have conversations with board members, county commissioners, non-profit executives and more. These experiences have opened my eyes to the vast opportunities within the business world.”

Grace's Internship Work

"I am in charge of updating the Regional Planning Commission and Celebrate Portage Facebook pages. I create posts, update logos, add websites, etc. If anyone is interested in keeping up with the work I do, these accounts will show my work throughout the summer!"
