Jeffrey T. Child, Ph.D., Named Editor

School of Communication Studies Professor Will Oversee the Journal of Family Communication

School of Communication Studies associate professor Jeffrey T. Child, Ph.D., was recently named editor of the Journal of Family Communication. In this role, Child will manage submissions and publications for issues published from 2018 through 2020. He will begin his work mid-2017.

As editor, Child will select reviewers for journal article submissions, make decisions about reviewed manuscripts, encourage submissions to the journal from various interest groups and work with issue production processes for the journal. Child will continue to teach in the School of Communication Studies during his time as editor.

“I’m really looking forward to this fantastic opportunity,” Child said. “I am so excited to be able to network with different scholars across the discipline and to be a leader in helping advance the best scholarship that helps us understand family interaction dynamics within the Journal of Family Communication.”

Along with his background and training in family communication, Child was interested in this opportunity because of the journal itself. Throughout his years of academic research, he has often referred to the Journal of Family Communication for top-notch scholarship and for publication of his own research.

Child says he is so fortunate to work for a research-intensive university that values his new position. The school will support Child in this endeavor by providing him with any resources he may need throughout his editorship. This position will also provide opportunities for the school’s graduate students to learn more about journal submission and the publication process.

“This opportunity is very important for the School of Communication Studies because it shows our support of high quality academic research and shows how people in the discipline value my scholarship and its impact for family communication studies,” Child said.

Through his editorship, Child hopes to maintain the high quality and standard of the journal, encourage submissions from a wide range of scholars and perspectives and to push the international boundaries of the journal by looking for opportunities to highlight the journal to scholars from around the world.
