School of Communication Studies Celebrates Graduate Students with Recognition Reception
The School of Communication Studies hosted its annual Graduate Student Recognition Reception on April 8 at the Patton House in Kent. The accomplishments of the graduate students were recognized with a presentation of awards for scholarship, teaching and achievement.
“This event is an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our graduate students,” Jeff Child, interim director, said. “These students contribute so much to the school so we enjoy recognizing all of their hard work.”
The following awards were presented to the following individuals:
- The James Mignerey Collegiality Award- Daniel Socha and Shawn Starcher
- The Outstanding Doctoral Student Award for Teaching- Shawn Starcher
- The Outstanding Master’s Student Award for Teaching- Brandy Metzler
- D. Ray and Susanne E. Heisey International Scholarship- Lynda Mwakisha and Xuefei Ren
Officers and members of the Communication Graduate Student Association (CGSA) and the Intercultural Communication Society (ICS) were recognized for their service. The CGSA officers honored faculty members Suzy D’Enbeau and Jennifer McCullough with the Hugenberg Faculty Mentoring Award. Students who participated in the Global Scholar Exchange program were also recognized.
"I had a great time at the reception,” Shawn Starcher, CGSA president, said. “It was fun to celebrate all of the hard work completed by the graduate students in communication studies and to celebrate some of the faculty members as well.”Graduate students, faculty, staff and their guests enjoyed a social hour with light refreshments followed by the awards presentation.
