Senior applied communication major, Jowan Cole landed an exciting position with Brandmuscle, a marketing software company. As their client service operations intern, Cole’s responsibilities include acting as a support personnel to account executives and helping in the production of local marketing content for the company’s clients. Cole says he enjoys the work he does along with the company’s environment.
“I love the company culture. It’s exciting to be able to be myself at work,” Cole said.
Cole is also minoring in global communication and marketing. He feels that taking communication and marketing classes has allowed him to understand and complete any task given to him.
“I’ve been able to effectively communicate with people on both a face-to-face and a computer-mediated communication level, which were two of the major components of the applied communication concentration,” Cole said. “Because I am able to effectively communicate, I am then able to ask the right questions and get the job done.”
After reading that Brandmuscle was being recognized as one of America’s fastest growing companies, Cole did some research and found this internship opportunity. Cole suggests not to settle when you are searching for your internships.
“Although your ultimate goal is to gain experience, you never want to just settle for the next best thing if the job is nothing close to what you want to do. Look for a position that you would be interested in and do your best. If you are unhappy in anything that requires effort, you will not do your best job,” Cole said.
After graduation, Cole plans to continue working full-time and eventually return to graduate school to obtain a master’s degree in luxury marketing management and move abroad.
