Why did you pursue podiatric medicine? Podiatry is so special in the sense that in order to treat someone thoroughly you must be well versed in many different medical fields. With patients you may find yourself diagnosing circulatory ailments, diabetes, or even cancer. Also, I broke my ankles seven times growing up and that may have had a factor in my decision.
Why did you choose Kent State? A lot of people like to compare board passing rates and all kinds of statistics, but the reality is that there are nine schools. To me they all seemed to be very similar statistically. When I got to Kent State I immediately felt at home. I was drawn in by the students and staff that were extremely friendly and seemed to genuinely wanted me to succeed. Also, I appreciated being the only specialty on campus and it being a respectively small class.
Favorite aspect of Kent State now that you are a student here: The professors truly want you succeed, sometimes through some tough love (but it is love, nonetheless.) Being here feels like being around family. KSUCPM is a small campus. We all know each other and you can stop just about anyone to ask for advice, pointers, or just to make a new friend.
What advice do you have for anyone considering podiatry school? DO IT! Feet are awesome!
What are some of the activities/clubs you are involved in at KSUCPM? I tried not to get too involved with clubs so I could focus on academics, but at any given time there is an event being hosted by someone on campus. I played golf for the first time during the alumni weekend. I’m on the indoor soccer team.. So whether you want to be in a club or not - there is always something to do.
As a first-year student, what are some of the challenges you faced (if any) while transitioning into medical school? The biggest and expected challenge I faced was finding what worked for me when studying for my courses. I was able to overcome that with A LOT of advice from upperclassmen and trying new things outside of my normal routines.
