Why did you pursue podiatric medicine? I chose to pursue podiatric medicine because of the many different aspects of medicine that it involves. With my love of sports medicine, surgery, and geriatrics, I am able to practice all of those during any given day as a podiatric physician.
Why did you choose Kent State? I chose KSUCPM because of the atmosphere. Walking around campus feels like home and the faculty, staff, and other students make you feel like a family. Everything is set up here to ensure you are able to pursue your best self.
Favorite aspect of Kent State now that you are a student here: The atmosphere! I love how everyone here makes you feel like family and is always going out of their way to set you up for success.
What advice do you have for anyone considering podiatry school? Shadow! Make sure you are spending as much time with podiatrists as you can. This is invaluable experience and I can promise that once you spend enough time with the right podiatrist, you will see why it is the best field of medicine!
What are some of the activities/clubs you are involved in at KSUCPM? I am the President-Elect of Ohio Podiatric Medical Student Association (OPMSA, which is essentially our student government). I am a member of American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS), American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine (AAPSM), American Academy of Podiatric Practice Management (AAPPM), American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine (ACFAOM), American College of Foot and Ankle Pediatrics, and Men’s Basketball club. I am also an anatomy tutor and teachers assistant.
As a first-year student, what are some of the challenges you faced while transitioning into medical school? Time management. The sky is the limit when it comes to how much you want to succeed at KSUCPM, the only limiting factor is how many minutes are in each day. Endless amounts of time can get allotted to studying, so making sure that is done efficiently and productively in order to maintain any sort of life outside of school is a must.
