Faculty from DSCI, CS, and MIS Participate in ACM's Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education

KSU Faculty Present at Premier Conference on Computer Science Education

Kent State University was amply represented at this year's ACM Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE 2012), with representatives from the School of Digital Sciences, the Department of Computer Science, and the Department of Management and Information Systems in attendance. ACM's premier conference on computer science education, SIGCSE 2012 was held in Raleigh NC and attracted almost 1300 attendees.

Kent State University's new School of Digital Sciences was one of the conference's exhibitors. Director Robert A. Walker described the School's undergraduate programs to K-12 teachers and college professors interested in interdisciplinary programs, and attracted attention to the School's Masters program from attendees at undergraduate schools. The School's exhibit booth also handed out literature on Kent State's CS Master's program and CIS Bachelor's program.

Kent State University's Department of Computer Science was represented by Department Chair Javed Khan and Professor Johnnie Baker. Professor Baker, a regular attendee of SIGCSE, was one of three presenters at a workshop entitled "Parallelism and Concurrency for Data Structures and Algorithms Courses". The workshop, organized by Robert Chesebrough of Intel Corporation, was one of the most-attended workshops at the conference.

Other conference attendees included Janet Formichelli, Lecturer in the Department of Management and Information Systems, and several graduates of the Department of Computer Science. Northeastern Ohio was very well represented, with attendees from Cleveland State University, Hiram College, Baldwin-Wallace College, Lakeland College, Lorain County Community College, and Oberlin College.
