For those of you who’ve not been to Rock the Runway before, here’s the rundown. This is not your ordinary fashion show, but a competition judged by four distinguished professionals with expertise in fashion and music. Fashion is merely the catalyst to the create a show that is fun and entertaining, while allowing Kent State students of all different majors an opportunity to showcase their talents.
The grand-prize winner will have half of their fall 2015 tuition paid! If that wasn’t enough, the audience will get to submit a vote for their favorite designer. Those votes will give the audience winner a Mood fabrics shopping spree in New York City. The 11th annual Rock the Runway: Boy Bands and Girl Groups is on Saturday, March 7 at 8 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Ballroom.

About Mark and Color Me Badd: Color Me Badd, whose hits "I Wanna Sex You Up," "I Adore Mi Amor," and "All For Love" continue to define a generation, are plotting a major return to the music scene in 2013. Far from a mere victory lap, the group has a lofty ambition: to show a whole new generation how powerful pure vocals can be. "A lot of hits right now are being built with studio-manipulated vocals,” says Mark Calderon, a founding member. "We want to help reverse that trend. Rich vocals and strong harmonies is the Color Me Badd sound. Adds Thornton, "We helped usher in a new wave of vocal harmony before; we're on a mission to do it again!
A series of successful one-shot concert events in 2012 encouraged the group to expand their performance schedule in 2013, including international stops in Australia and the Philippines. The plan is to tour even more aggressively in 2015 as Color Me Badd has been re-introduced to a new audience thanks to usage of their hit single “I Wanna Sex You Up” in “Glee” and box office hit movies such as “No Strings Attached”.
To that end, the group is currently working on new material, including a forthcoming single. "We're going back to that fun, up-tempo, danceable CMB sound that fans have been waiting for,” says Calderon.
In the meantime, the trio has plenty of hits and album faves to perform as they continue to reintroduce the Color Me Badd brand of showmanship to audiences. "We've enjoyed getting back out there and seeing the fans," says Calderon. "And we're seeing so many new faces! The feedback has been incredible." "We're definitely encouraged by the enthusiasm we've seen," adds Calderon. "Our fans are hungry for more, and a new generation has been exposed to us in various ways and really taken to our sound. We're excited to expand on that." To see them in action is to see that excitement infectiously evident. From the energy of their live performances to the zeal on display while crafting new material, it’s clear these three are more than ready to bring Color Me Badd back in full effect.
