  • Journalism Teaching Endorsement: No separate endorsement – teachers who earn certification for English Language Arts are properly certified to teach journalism in Alabama.
  • Pass state assessment or certification test/s (tests needed): To earn initial certification for English Language Arts, a prospective Alabama teacher must earn passing scores on three basic skills assessments and on Praxis II test #0041.
  • NCATE or National Accreditation required: No – degree from an NCATE-accredited education preparation institution is not required in Alabama. However, 21 of 27 institutions in Alabama have sought and achieved accreditation.
  • Accepts candidates from states participating in the NASDTEC Interstate Contract (what kind of candidates): Alabama DOES accept candidates with certification from NCATE accredited institutions or from states participating in the NASDTEC Interstate Agreement (Teachers, Support Professionals and Administrators).
