Dr. Joseph Giancola served as the superintendent of Kent City School District from 2007-2014. He had served previously as the assistant superintendent for the district from 1993-2007. Dr. Giancola also served as the assistant superintendent in the Midview Local School District and as band director, assistant principal and principal in the James A. Garfield Local School District.
Dr. Giancola earned a B.M. in Music Education in 1978 and an M.A. in Music Theory and Composition in 1980, both from Kent State University. He completed his Ph.D. in Educational Administration at Kent State in 1988 with a minor in Computer-Based Information Systems. He holds superintendent and principalship licenses as well as teaching licenses in business, computer science, mathematics, and music.
Dr. Giancola has taught in the Educational Leadership K-12 program at Kent State since 2000. He also teaches music literature at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, FL and taught previously in the educational administration program at Ursuline College. He is the co-author of Transforming the Culture of School Leadership (Corwin Press, 2005).
