EDAD Faculty Maximize Learning in the Online Environment

Part-time Faculty Participate in Professional Learning Workshop

Dr. Kimberly Schimmel, Director of the School of Foundations, Leadership and Administration, was on hand on the evening of February 22 to welcome and thank twelve part-time instructors from the Educational Administration Program for the valuable work they do.  The instructors were participating in a two-hour professional learning workshop on how to maximize learning in the online environment.  Given that all courses in the EDAD program are either offered in the “blended” or 100% online format, it is necessary to continue to build capacity in part-time program faculty to ensure quality instruction and a quality experience for students in the program.  The workshop drew on the expertise of Dr. Bethany Simunich, Director, Online Pedagogy and Research - Kent State Online, Office of Continuing & Distance Education who was the instructor for the evening's program.  Dr. Rosemary Gornik, EDAD Program Coordinator, initiated this professional learning to ensure that program faculty, both full and part-time, are fully equipped to provide superior learning experiences for our students online and face-to-face.  Dr. Gornik commented that, "Bethany is a fabulous teacher and had our instructors feeling fortified with new design and technological skills to fully engage students in the online environment".
