Scholarship Opportunities

Pat Reppa Award

This award is given to a female Physical Education or Health Education major based upon merit. An important consideration is outstanding commitment to the profession of Physical Education.

David B. Toothaker Alumni Scholarship

This award is given to a junior majoring in PEP with a concentration in Physical Education or Health and Physical Education. Criteria include a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, demonstrated behavior consistent with being a positive role model, and dedication to professional development and quality physical education.

George J. Altman Award

This award is given to the outstanding senior male in Physical Education. Criteria for selection are GPA of 2.5 (minimum), service to the profession, and leadership. Applicants must have spent at least two years as a major in the Physical Education program at Kent State University.

Marie Hyde Apple Award

This award is named for Mrs. Marie Apple, first chairperson of the Department of Physical Education for Women at Kent State University. This award is given to the outstanding senior female(s) in Physical Education. Criteria for selection are GPA of 2.5 (minimum), service to the profession, and leadership. Applicants must have spent at least two years as a major in the Physical Education program at Kent State University.

Judith S. Oslin Scholarship

This award is given to a major in Physical Education or Health and Physical Education. Applicants must have spent 2 or more semesters in the program, must have a GPA of 2.75 (minimum), and must demonstrate financial need, leadership, and service. Criteria for selection prioritize students who provide leadership, demonstrate a passion for teaching Physical Education, and are from Cleveland or other Ohio urban areas.

Betty S. Troug Memorial Award

This award is given to one or two female Physical Education Teacher Licensure majors at the junior, senior, or graduate level rank, with outstanding attitude, ability, and behavior that represents "exemplary role modeling and mentoring". Recipients must be current students, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, and have participated in intramural and/or intercollegiate sports. Faculty nominations are required.

Mary Beth Ikerman Memorial Scholarship

Nominees for this award must be sophomore or junior, female, Physical Education Licensure (PE or HPE) majors. Criteria for selection are a GPA of 2.5 (minimum), dedication to teaching, and positive personality. Applicants must also be Ohio residents, and must have completed a minimum of three semesters at Kent State University as a Physical Education major.
