Locations for Advising Appointments

Advising appointments are primarily located in Rm. 304-White Hall. There are a handful of majors that have the opportunity to meet with advisor close to where their classes are located, in addition to White Hall. These majors and their advising appointment locations are listed below.

  • Athletic Training (Gym Annex and White Hall)
  • Exercise Science (Gym Annex and White Hall)
  • Nutrition (White Hall)
  • Speech Pathology and Audiology (White Hall)
  • Sports Administration (Gym Annex and White Hall)

Important Note: Advising appointments are only available at White Hall during the summer and university breaks (i.e. Spring break, Winter Recess, etc.)

The advisors in the programs above have appointments available in the Gym Annex and White Hall and you will be able to choose where you want the advising appointment. You do not have to always see your advisor in the same location.

Appointments at the Gym Annex

Advising in the Annex is by appointment only. The advisors will have back to back advising appointments in the Annex and will not be able to accommodate walk-ins

You will schedule your advising appointment the same way you do for advising appointments in White Hall. The only difference is that you will select the day/time that the advisor is located in the Annex rather than White Hall.

  • Go to: advising.kent.edu and follow the links to ‘schedule an advising appointment’ for the College of Education, Health and Human Services.
  • After answering the questions, select your major from the drop-down menu.
  • When you see the list of available advising appointments, select the advisor and times that fit into your schedule
  • Please note: appointments are scheduled out one week in advance.  If you don’t see appointments available, continue to check back. If your advisor is available, new appointments will become available at midnight.

The advisor will be in Room 263/264 Annex during certain times.

Please check in at the reception desk in 263/264 Annex.  If no one is there, please take a seat and someone will be with you shortly.

Beginning either the 2nd or 3rd week of each semester, there will be an advisor every week in the Annex excluding  holidays and breaks (spring break, summer and winter recess).

To cancel your appointment, you can either follow the link on your email confirmation for your appointment or you can call the Vacca Office of Student Services at (330) 672-2862 to cancel.

Here are some tips to remember as you prepare for a productive meeting with your advisor:

SCHEDULING

  • Schedule your advising appointment in advance. At peak times of the year, it may be difficult to get an appointment with your academic advisor at a moment’s notice.
    • Academic advising is by appointment only. Appointments may be scheduled online. We do not offer same day appointments.
  • Show up early or on time for your advising appointment. If you are unable to make your appointment, please refer to your appointment email to cancel the appointment well in advance. Canceling the appointment may allow another student to take the open appointment time.
  • Make sure to bring your KSU ID!

PREPARATION

  • Familiarize yourself with your program requirements and/or admissions and major information for the school you plan on transferring to. Explore the University Catalog for the relevant major(s) (and minor) requirements.
  • Monitor your progress towards graduation. Check your GPS audit periodically through FlashLine.

What to bring

  • Bring something to take notes. This help you to remember important details and deadlines.
  • Bring a laptop or iPad. (Chromebooks will be available during your appointment if needed). This will help you utilize the helpful tools/resources in FlashLine
  • Prepare a selection of courses. Include those that you would like to take and/or think you may need for your degree or transfer plan. Learn how to search for courses.
  • Bring your Pre-Advising worksheet (PDF). This will be helpful in planning your timeline for graduation, discussing your goals and providing helpful resources to be successful!
  • Bring a list of questions. Get the most out of your appointment and have all of your questions answered at one time.
How to Meet an Advisor

Appointments

Freshman and Sophomore level students are required to meet with an advisor each semester until they reach Junior level status. Additionally, new students and students on academic probation are required to meet with an advisor before they can register for classes.  Juniors & Seniors and all other students are strongly encouraged to meet with an advisor each semester.

Appointments are conducted in person in 304 White Hall, Nixson Hall, or in the Gym Annex (see information at left). Students can also meet with an advisor virtually via Microsoft Teams,

Please note, you can only make an appointment two weeks in advance. Have a quick question?  Schedule a virtual drop-in appointment with your specialized advisor by visiting: Microsoft Bookings. Please note, you can make an appointment up to 3 days in advance, drop-ins cannot fulfill required advising.

New students who have never met with their advisor will have a one-hour advising appointment for their initial/first appointment with the advisor assigned based on major.  After the initial one-hour advising appointment, most appointments thereafter will be 30 minutes in length.  Appointments begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday through Friday with the last appointment of the day at 4 p.m.
