I decided to pursue academic advising as a career based on my own experience with advisors as an undergraduate student at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, OH. I was a first-generation college student from a small rural town. College was a very transformative and positive experience for me. Looking back, I can see that my advisors were vital to my success. I earned my Master’s degree at Ohio University in the College Student Personnel program. From my own personal experience as a student and my professional advising experience I have come to learn that college is a time of critical change and growth for students. As academic advisors we are tasked with helping students through this transitional time. As an advisor I strive to achieve a balance between providing guidance and information for students while also helping them to develop a sense of ownership and responsibility for their future. I currently live in Lakewood with my husband and daughter.
