Annual Scholarship Poetry Reading Highlights the Work of Students
By Ellie Enselein
Celebrating Our Own, the Wick Poetry Center’s annual scholarship poetry reading for high school and undergraduate students, will be March 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Rockwell Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
Winners of the Wick Poetry Center’s Undergraduate Scholarship Contest will read their original poetry at the event.
“Our annual reading, Celebrating Our Own, is a wonderful opportunity for us to hear and celebrate the new, emerging voices of our student poets and to recognize their achievements in receiving the annual Stan and Tom Wick Scholarship award,” says David Hassler, director of the Wick Poetry Center.
Matthew Minicucci, winner of the 2016 Stan and Tom Wick Poetry Prize, selected this year’s winners. Kent State alumna Victoria Bracher, senior integrated language arts major Lydia Leclerc and junior English major Ben Baumgardner are the winners of the 2016 undergraduate scholarships. Molly Davidson and Taylor Patterson are the recipients of the 2016 high school scholarships.
The Undergraduate Poetry Scholarship Contest began in 1984, when the Wick Poetry Center opened.
The Wick Poetry Center is accepting submissions for the 2017 Undergraduate Scholarship Contest. Entry information can be found here.
