Kent State’s College of Podiatric Medicine to Host Inaugural Alumni Reunion Weekend

Kent State University’s College of Podiatric Medicine, in partnership with the Ohio Podiatric Medical Student Association, is hosting its inaugural Alumni Reunion Weekend on Friday, Aug. 18, to Sunday, Aug. 20. Four events throughout the Cleveland area will make up the celebration weekend, which seeks to unite students, staff, faculty and alumni, as well as induct two esteemed College of Podiatric Medicine alumni into its Hall of Fame. This long weekend will serve to replace the annual Glass Slipper Fete in the spring, as well as the Alumni BBQ.Kent State University’s College of Podiatric Medicine, in partnership with the Ohio Podiatric Medical Student Association, will host its inaugural Alumni Reunion Weekend on Aug. 18-20.

The Alumni Reunion Weekend will kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 18 with a luau pig roast hosted at the College of Podiatric Medicine in Independence. Celebrations will include authentic Polynesian entertainment, networking opportunities and the recognition of the anniversary classes of 1967, 1977 and 1992.

A full day of activities on Aug. 19 will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the annual Ohio Podiatric Medical Student Association clinical symposium, which will be worth approximately five continuing medical education credits and include a Lapiplasty workshop courtesy of Treace Medical. Saturday will end with the evening’s Alumni Awards and Hall of Fame Dinner at 6:30 p.m. The college will celebrate the induction of two Hall of Fame Society members: John E. George, D.P.M., ’64, and Elliott W. Biggs, D.P.M., ’70, at the Tudor Arms Hotel Cleveland, across the street from the former College of Podiatric Medicine campus.

To close out the weekend on Aug. 20, the Ohio Podiatric Medical Student Association will host its time-honored student tradition, the annual golf outing. This year’s outing will be held at Shale Creek Country Club in Medina, with an 11 a.m. shotgun start, and serves as a great opportunity for alumni and students to meet and connect.

Founded in 1916, Kent State’s College of Podiatric Medicine is one of nine accredited podiatry colleges in the nation, and is a four-year, graduate-level medical college, granting the degree of Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. The mission of the college is to educate students to be highly competent doctors of podiatric medicine who will excel in residency training.
