Kent State’s Student Recreation and Wellness Center to Offer Free Group X Demos
Kent State University’s Department of Recreational Services is offering a week of free Group X class demonstrations, as well as an Instructional Program Demonstration Night, at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. The Group X Demo Week started Sunday, Jan. 17, and goes through Monday, Jan. 25. Please note that Group X classes will not be offered on Monday, Jan. 18, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The Instructional Program Demonstration Night will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 20, from 6-8 p.m. The demo week and demo night are open to all part-time and full-time Kent State faculty and staff. Faculty and staff will still need to pay an entry fee to get in to the facility during demo week if they do not already have a Student Recreation and Wellness Center membership. However, admittance will be free from 6-8 p.m. on Instructional Program Demo Night.
The instructional program offerings include:
- Golden Gloves Boxing and Conditioning
- Self Defense Level 1
- Self Defense Level 2
- Hip-Hop Dance
- Meet-Up Sakhya Yoga
- Mixed Martial Arts Conditioning
“We have a couple of new, exciting instructional programs to introduce that will appeal to a wider variety of participants,” says Lesli Brooks, Group X and Instructional Program coordinator.
Instructional programs are designed as progressive workouts. Each class will build upon the previous week’s skillset.
All Group X classes will be free to try during this week. In addition to Group X classes, participants can try Reformer Pilates for free too.
“Participants have the potential to participate in seven Reformer Pilates classes for free during this week,” Brooks says.
The purpose of Group X Demo Week and Instructional Program Demo Night is to allow patrons to get an idea of what the Student Recreation and Wellness Center has to offer before purchasing a pass.
Starting Sunday, Jan. 17, the Student Recreation and Wellness Center will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday; and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
