Main Street Kent Presents Third Annual Oktoberfest

The third annual Main Street Kent Oktoberfest is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 17, from noon-10 p.m. The event will take place on Franklin Avenue, from West Main Street to West Erie Street in downtown Kent. This section of Franklin Avenue will be closed all day for the event, and local eateries will be set up on the street selling their specially prepared German foods. Vendors will include Pufferbelly, Ray’s Place, Rotary Club of Kent, Grazers and Scratch free-range food. Popped! will be on site as well, serving up beer-roasted nuts and other tasty fall treats. Be prepared to make some tough choices though – there will be brats, schnitzel, strudel, stuffed pretzels, beer-braised sauerkraut and plenty of seasonal beverages on hand. The Kent Guild of Brewers will demonstrate the homebrew process, filling the air with the smell of an Oktoberfest-style beer, adding to the day’s festivities.

Two beer trucks, featuring the popular Spaten Oktoberfest, Goose Island and several other seasonal beers and cider, will be situated on Franklin Avenue. At the event entrances, commemorative Oktoberfest beer mugs will be on sale, featuring a new design for the 2016 event. For $10, event goers can purchase a mug with one beer ticket. Additional beer tickets will be available for $5 each. New this year, Kent Oktoberfest shirts will be available in advance of the event, only until Sept. 2. Shirts purchased at will be available for pickup at the event. Shirts will not be sold at the event.

Sponsors for this year’s Kent Oktoberfest include Spaten Oktoberfest, Acorn Alley, College Town Kent and Portage Community Bank. Their generosity and support of Main Street Kent make this fun, popular event possible. There will be live music, yodeling contests and a packed entertainment schedule for the day, beginning with some polka and dancing, then moving on to a variety of fantastic local bands:
