Women’s Center to Honor 46 “Mothers, Mentors and Muses” at Annual Scholarship Fundraiser Reception
As part of the Kent State University Women’s Center’s 20th anniversary celebration, the center will host the seventh annual Mothers, Mentors and Muses Scholarship Fundraiser Reception. The event will take place at the Kent Student Center Ballroom on March 8 from 5-7:30 p.m. The guest speaker for this year’s event is Kent State President Emerita Carol Cartwright.
The event honors women as either a mother – someone who has helped “birth” new ideas and thoughts in others and also has served as an overall nurturing individual; a mentor – an individual who has been both a role model and a trusted counselor to others; or a muse – an individual who has inspired both creativity and academic enthusiasm in others. Over the past six years, about 325 women have been honored in these respective roles.

The Women’s Center, which was established in 1996 during Cartwright’s tenure, supports women in their academic careers. Money raised at the event will fund $500 scholarship awards for two Kent State female or female-identifying students. This scholarship has benefited 23 students since its introduction in 2003.
