Design and Innovation at Kent State Is Topic of Fall 2017 Bowman Breakfast

The fall 2017 Bowman Breakfast will take place at Kent State University in the Kent Student Center Ballroom on Wednesday, Oct. 4. Doors open at 7 a.m., buffet breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m., and the program will follow at 8 a.m.

The featured speaker is Mark Mistur, dean of Kent State’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design. Mistur will speak on the topic “Design and Innovation at Kent State.”Mark Mistur

The cost to attend is $10 per person, payable by cash or check at the door only. Invoicing is not available for this event. Reservations can be completed online or by contacting Mary Mandalari at 330-672-8664 or mmandala@kent.edu no later than Wednesday, Sept. 27. No shows will be billed. Mistur became dean of Kent State’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design in July 2016. He previously served as associate dean of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s School of Architecture. His teaching and research focuses on innovations driven by performance criteria, but he remains equally concerned with phenomena, the human experience and social consequences of architecture.

Mistur has received many honors and awards, including 2015 U.S. Professor of the Year nominee from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education and the Carnegie Foundation. His professional experience includes his firm Mark Mistur Architect in Troy, New York, from 1993-present; Mistur Riebe Architects in New York City from 2004-2010; Glynn, Spillane, Griffing Architects PC in Albany, New York, from 1992-1993; and Crozier Associates PC in Albany, New York, from 1983-1992.

At Rensselaer, Mistur received a Bachelor of Architecture, a Bachelor of Building Science and a Master of Science in building conservation. He also studied at Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule (ETH) Zürich in Switzerland. He has been a registered and licensed architect since 1988.
