Kent State to Honor Veterans on Nov. 9

Kent State University will hold its annual Veterans Day observance on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. at the Kent Student Center Kiva.Members of the Kent State University ROTC stand at attention during the playing of the Armed Forces Medley, part of the university’s annual observance of Veterans Day.

The program, Honoring All Who Serve, will include a flag-raising ceremony conducted by a joint color guard from the university’s Army and Air Force ROTC programs on the Student Green at Risman Plaza at 10:30 a.m., remarks from Kent State President Beverly Warren and guest speaker Kevin Lacz. Mr. Lacz is a decorated former U.S. Navy SEAL and author of The New York Times best-selling memoir The Last Punisher. He is also the co-star of the blockbuster movie American Sniper, starring Bradley Cooper.

All are invited to come and pay tribute to America’s veterans. A special invitation is extended to Kent State faculty, staff, students and community members who are veterans, active service members or who have family members in the military. Free parking will be available in the Kent Student Center visitor parking lot for event attendees.

A reception will follow the brief program in the Kent Student Center Kiva lobby.

Mr. Lacz will also speak Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Ballroom about the importance of taking risks. A book-signing will follow. This speech is sponsored by Kent State’s Division of Student Affairs and the Center for Adult and Veteran Services.

The university will be closed on Friday, Nov. 10, in observance of Veterans Day.
