Kent State to Participate in Get Fit Don’t Sit Day
On Wednesday, May 2, Kent State University will participate in the American Diabetes Association's National Get Fit Don't Sit Day™, and we want you to join in the fun!
You may have always known that exercise is good for you, but you may not realize just how harmful extended times of sitting can be to your health. That is why the American Diabetes Association recommends that everyone, including people with diabetes, limit the amount of time they spend sitting. In fact, they advise getting up and moving, at least 3-4 minutes, every 30 minutes.
Here at Kent State, we value the health of our faculty, staff and students and desire to provide opportunities to empower you with the resources you need to get moving – today and every day.
To show our Flash support, join us as we get up and MOVE on May 2. The Employee Wellness team and the Department of Recreational Services will host an Open Walk and Total Body Toning clinics on May 2. Details include:
- Open Walk: Grab your walking shoes, water bottle and a friend and come join us on the walking track behind DeWeese Health Center. The open walk hours will take place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Join when you can, for as long as you can, during this time.
- Total Body Toning stop: Join along with our favorite trainer Beth Michel, who will lead you in a total body toning session “at the track.” Sessions will be at 11:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. All fitness levels are welcome. Dress accordingly.
- Snap some photos of you and your co-workers and send to email@example.com. You also may tweet and use #HealthyKSU #Showusyourmove to show your Flash support for National Get Fit Don't Sit Day!
All activities will take place at the track and field area behind DeWeese Health Center. In the case of adverse weather, all activities will take place at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center on the upper track during the same time.
Registration is preferred so that in the event of adverse weather, we can notify registrants. Please click here to register.
Whether you are coming to stretch your legs, walk, run or total body train, let’s get on the move together for National Get Fit Don’t Sit Day on May 2. No equipment is necessary. All participants will receive a raffle ticket to enter into our prize drawings.
