Women’s Center to Honor 33 “Mothers, Mentors and Muses” at Annual Scholarship Fundraiser Reception

The Kent State University Women’s Center will host the ninth annual Mothers, Mentors and Muses Scholarship Fundraiser Reception. The event will take place at the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center on April 3 from 5-7:30 p.m. The keynote speaker for this year’s event is Stephanie Smith, former senior intelligence service executive in the CIA and current Kent State faculty member.

The event honors women as either a mother – someone who has helped “birth” new ideas and thoughts in others and also has served as an overall nurturing individual; a mentor – an individual who has been both a role model and a trusted counselor to others; or a muse – an individual who has inspired both creativity and academic enthusiasm in others. Over the past six years, more than 400 women have been honored in these respective roles.

The Women’s Center, which was established in 1996, supports women in their academic careers. Money raised at the event will fund $500 scholarship awards for two Kent State female or female-identifying students. This scholarship has benefited 30 students since its introduction in 2003. Register early because space is limited!
